Protecting Ontario Jobs with the New Buy Ontario Act

Ontario’s PC government is taking bold action to protect Ontario workers, Ontario businesses and Ontario tax dollars with the introduction of the Buy Ontario Act, 2025, making Buy Ontario mandatory for public procurement across the entire public sector.

Harmful U.S. tariffs and global uncertainty have put Ontario jobs and industries at risk. Our government is stepping up to ensure that Ontario families and workers come first. The Buy Ontario Act will help make sure that the province’s more than $30 billion in annual procurement is spent right here at home, supporting Ontario jobs and Ontario products.

This new law will require all ministries, agencies, municipalities, contractors and subcontractors to prioritize Ontario-made goods and services first, and then Canadian products. By strengthening local supply chains and safeguarding manufacturing jobs, we’re making sure every possible public dollar directly supports the workers who are building this province.

With the largest plan to build in Canadian history ($220 billion) already underway, this legislation ensures Ontario workers benefit from it at every stage. From steel and lumber to transit vehicles, construction materials, technology and services, we are keeping jobs and opportunities in Ontario, where they belong.

Our government has already seen early success working with municipalities to prioritize Ontario-made products, such as the new TTC subway cars being manufactured by workers in Thunder Bay. The Buy Ontario Act will expand this success across the province, ensuring that more procurement decisions support our workers and our economy.

At a time when foreign tariffs threaten local jobs and supply chains, the Ontario PC government is taking decisive action to protect Ontario. The Buy Ontario Act strengthens our economy, supports local businesses and ensures that Ontario tax dollars help Ontario families first.

We will always stand up for our workers, our communities and our province’s economic future.
